TELESCOPE HOUSE

Dwelling House for retired couple

The house creates a level sheltered courtyard and protected grassed platform in the rolling rural landscape. This courtyard is defined by a cultivated controlled landscape contrasting with the rougher topography and coarser rural vegetation of the rest of the site. This courtyard is shaped to capture afternoon and evening sun while the roof overhang provides a degree of shelter and definition to this courtyard room. The courtyard territory is connected to the macro landscape and principle views to the North by a glazed aperture puncturing through the buildings volume. This aperture forms a space aligned with the axis of the valley, connecting the indoor and outdoor living spaces with the scale of the greater landscape. This telescope-like space is the shared intermediate social space that separates the house into the living area for the retired couple and a Children/visitors area that can be closed off when not in use.
